Bedroom Decor - Your Child and You

by admin

Decorating your child’s bedroom is fun but it might be more challenging than decorating your own. That’s because your idea of good might not be good enough for your youngster. In fact, he might not like it at all. This is perfectly understandable because designing a room is a form of self-expression and you would naturally tend to have things according to your adult taste. If you really want the design to be successful, you have to work in tandem with the one who’ll be spending time in that bedroom.

Whether you’re planning to get traditional or modern furniture, the elements of design are universal, therefore, what you would you need to have in your own bedroom design will be same for your child’s. However, there will be variations on which the kid’s opinion will significantly matter. Matters of color for bedroom furniture and decor, for example, is something that should be his choice. While he may not have an idea where to start, you can offer him combinations that you think may work. You can ask what his favorite color is and work up some really nice blends. If he wants blue, then give him different shades of it as well as of a color that might be a good match.

Your kid’s bedroom walls can also use a fresh layer of paint if you want the room to really come alive. Again when you decide on a color, decide together. Take into consideration that a kid will probably want posters of his favorite cartoon characters or teen stars. Therefore, it’s a wise idea for you two to get a neutral shade so whatever color combinations the posters come in, they won’t have a problem matching the walls.

Floors are something you should consider carefully as well. Consider that kids can be very energetic and often reckless. Wooden floors might be harder to maintain because of water spills, for example. Maybe get vinyl or tiles which are easier to keep nice and clean. Neutral shades also work best considering that kids have varying tastes and may want to change things and stuff every now and then. When the color is kept neutral, it would be easier to make things blend.

Once you get everything planned out, it should be easy to get bedroom furniture, with the many bedroom sets or individual furnishings available today.
