The study of light and physics is so very cool and in fact it is amazing what you can do with different spectrums of light. Take black light for instance, it can be used to cast shadows or do all sorts of things. Think of all the possibilities for such a technology. It would be easy to subtly keep away the burglars and prevent potential thieves from casing the joint. Have you ever heard of the crime-triangle theory? Well it is like the Fire Triangle - heat, fuel, oxygen. But in the crime-triangle theory for a crime to take place you must have a victim, perpetrator and a location or opportunity. Otherwise there can be no crime.
Can you see how a shadow creation device might protect your family and reduce the opportunity for thieves, as you take away the location in the crime-triangle? Of course this would not be a substitute of implementing a neighborhood watch, rather just one more layer of protection you see?
A shadow creation device might give someone peace of mind and thus it would be a great technology for homeowners and their families, especially single parents who are often home alone with kids.
Imagine the market potential of such a device and eventually the burglars would know, but they would still not know which shadows were real, thus they would essentially be afraid of your own shadow.
