Nightstands - Finding the Perfect Nightstand for Your Bedroom!

A nightstand is a small table or cabinet designed to stand beside a bed or elsewhere in a bedroom, as a place to put anything likely to be required during the night. With changing times, these too have evolved to be put to greater use. Modern nightstands are usually small bedside tables, often with a drawer. They are often used to support a lamp, alarm clock, reading materials, a glass of water, medication, and other useful items that one might need close to hand, or bed, as it were.

Nightstands are used to complement a bedroom, not define it. Instead of worrying about having your nightstand match your bed, you should be more concerned about the functional aspects of the nightstand, so that it matches your bedtime style. Are you a late-night reader? Or just stuck with too little storage space or a cramped bedroom? Whatever your needs, the perfect nightstand solution exists for you.

A traditional wooden nightstand with a flat top and a set of drawers as the body might be perfect for you. The top can hold the lamp, the phone, and the alarm clock. Other bedside accoutrements (books, tissue box, remote) slip into the top drawer. Additional drawers can house clothes that yearn to migrate from the closet floor, bed linens for easy access on sheet-changing day, or an extra blanket for a chilly night.

There are also many other innovative options that can serve as nontraditional, but nonetheless functional, nightstands. For example, a small bathroom cabinet (in metal and glass or white wood) works as well. A shelf meant to store towels and toiletries works equally well for an alarm clock and books. For anyone with allergies, a cabinet with glass doors as a nightstand is a good, dust-defeating choice. This is perfect for a bedroom where every inch counts. Though not the most glamorous, a wooden filing cabinet works well as a nightstand if you re the type who likes to research vacation destinations, or finish up notes for a meeting while under the covers. This will keep paperwork within reach and eliminate messy piles.

Book lovers can even use a bookshelf for their nightstand. This will allow you to keep all of those books you always wanted to read but could never find the time to within arm s reach, so that perhaps you can fit some hearty reading in before a good night s sleep.

To keep things neat, organize items you d normally put in a bedside drawer in storage boxes or wicker baskets and stack them on the shelves. Sometimes nightstands on both sides of the bed don t have to match either. If your husband loves books and you an elegant pedestal, you can do both. Not only will your nightstands be unique, they will also serve you better.
