Everyone has an interior designer inside her or him waiting to escape and express itself with passion. The environment within we live affects our mood, so it is important to find a design that is inviting, comfortable and relaxing, as we spend a lot of time in our homes. With a few simple tips and a small budget, you can turn a drab and lifeless space into an oasis of colors and textures. What better way to start than by choosing a Moroccan theme, which is becoming en vogue in the United States lately.

Moroccan design is known for its rich, vibrant colors, textures and patterns, and by adding touches here and there, you will be on your way to creating an evocative and exotic living space. First, start by analyzing the space with which you are working and see what you already have that can serve as an inspiration. Find a special piece in your space and see what you can add to complement that piece and enhance the room in general. Creating a Moroccan feel does not necessarily mean you have to fill the room from top to bottom with Moroccan dcor, so consider small design ideas.

Start with accent pieces, such as a Moroccan lamp, lantern or even a rug. Moroccan lighting is typically dramatic and can put you in the right direction by setting a soothing and inspiring mood. If you are working with your bedroom, do not forget about Moroccan pillows or throws for the bed or even an intricately handmade camel-bone mirror for over a dresser or even in your bathroom. A hand-painted cedar chest or even a hand-carved Moroccan bench is perfect for the foot of the bed. Moroccan artisans are talented in many areas, so consider all types of Moroccan furniture and dcor.

Be sure to distribute your Moroccan pieces evenly throughout your space in order to create and overall Moroccan ambiance. Balance is extremely important in interior design, so avoid grouping everything into one area. You want your Moroccan theme to bring harmony to your space, so consider balancing out a large armoire with two large vases or urns next to it, for example. Moroccan pottery is yet another well known craft. If you already have Mexican pieces in your space, consider complementing them with pottery typical of Fez, which is reminiscent of Mexican Talavera pottery. Mixing cultures can introduce the unexpected into a room, which is also a characteristic quite common with Moroccan artisanship.

Moroccan themes can be elegant, chic, rustic, or even funky, so do not think that you are limited to one particular mood. Moroccan design is suited for all types of people and all types of styles. One thing that is consistent with Moroccan design is that it is never boring. Each piece is intriguing and unique in its own way and is flexible when it comes to matching it with an existing dcor. That is the beauty of the craftsmanship coming out of this exciting part of the world.
