Illuminated house numbers an aid to your home security, how can that be? If you have ever driven down a street at night looking for a particular house you will know how difficult and frustrating it can be. Perhaps you had a dinner invitation, you located the street okay but finding you friend s home is proving a problem. What number is that house? Have we driven too far along? If that house is number 52 then 58 must be this house, or is it?
Imagine then, the frustration caused to drivers of emergency vehicles. They do their utmost to reach an address in the shortest possible time, perhaps tearing through town with sirens blaring only then to be delayed in the correct street because they can t quickly pinpoint the exact house. It s dark, the house may be numbered but from the curbside what the number is remains a mystery.
Suppose the police were responding to a report of a break in at your residence. Would you want them wasting precious seconds in trying to locate the right house? Of course not.
This is where illuminated house numbers can aid the police and play a part in your home security. Illuminated numbers help the police to quickly identify your address, no wasted time, the officers can get into action that much quicker.
It is vital that other emergency services find you swiftly too of course. When you need an ambulance you don t want the crew needlessly delayed by being unable to identify your house. Illuminated house numbers can also be a boon in non-emergency situations too. Phone for a cab at night and the driver cannot keep you waiting longer than necessary by not being able to tie the address he has to a house. Order up a pizza and your Hawaiian special won t go cold because of a confused delivery boy.
To be effective your house number not only needs to be lit up, it also has to be at the right height and not obscured from any angle by bushes or trees. Of course, the numbers themselves have to be large enough to be read clearly from the roadside.
Okay, so what is it going to cost to run these lit up numbers, after all we are all supposed to be energy conscious and thinking green these days. The answer is it needn t cost you a penny in electricity cost to run your lighted and clearly visible house number. Solar-powered units are available, and direct exposure to the sun is not necessary, so you don t need to live somewhere with year round sunshine. To charge up the units need only an clear view of the sky. And some of these units are designed to hold up to three-months of stored power.
Not sure if you want a lighted sign on your property? Think it may look a little Vegas? Forget about Neon signs or even numbers back-lit by naked bulbs. Illuminated house numbers usually employ neat LED lights, very tasteful looking and yet can be read from quite a distance away.
Not as vital to your home security as good locks and alarm systems perhaps, but illuminated numbers that aid the police in quickly identifying your home can be one more weapon in your home protection arsenal.
