People with small apartments might be missing having a fireplace. Maybe it has been so long since they have had one that they ve forgotten the luxury they can get from sitting in front of a fireplace with nice heat carrying off the logs and setting an ambiance in the room. Families love sitting around a fireplace on cold nights during the holidays. Couples like having romantic evenings. Many apartment dwellers are missing out on the awesome experience of a fireplace.
If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace in your apartment, that s a great thing for you. But, there are plenty of apartment dwellers who don t have that luxury. And if it is you who doesn t have a fireplace, you re probably thinking right now what you can do about the problem. Landlords don t necessarily like to have holes knocked in their walls. Plus the fact that fireplaces can be so expensive. The average fireplace can run anywhere from $5,000 to $7,500 to completely install.
If you live in an apartment and you miss having a fireplace, it s not as if there is nothing you can do. You have options that are available to you. It just takes knowing what is out there and what would be best for your given situation. Some options are more expensive than others and there are safety considerations. So, you want to be very conscientious about what you are getting.
In all, there are four options of fireplaces and we ve already discussed the traditional. So, the other three include the gas, the electric and the ventless gel. The gas is just as difficult to install as a traditional fireplace. You need a chimney and a hearth. So, approval from your landlord will be required. Gas also puts out a large amount of water vapor, which starts to cause damage in hard to find areas. Landlords don t like that equation and if they are aware of that, you most likely won t get your approval.
The electric fireplace is easy to install. It literally takes no landlord approval at all. They plug into the wall and they have decorations that make them look exactly like traditional fireplaces. But, they don t produce much heat. On a cold night, you will want a back up heat source. Especially if you have a power outage, a backup heating source would be necessary.
The ventless gel fireplace also doesn t require any installation. Just like gas and electric, they look exactly like traditional fireplaces. They come in just about any material.
