How to Emboss using a Heat Gun
By Dixita Dutt

Embossing is the art of making a raised design by using a heat source. The perfect instrument needed for embossing is the heat gun. The heat gun can melt crystals into pools of vibrant hues. A simple object can be turned into a piece of art by using the rich color combinations available at hand.

Using the heat gun, a multi-utilitarian instrument, to emboss with, on paper has become a popular craft today. What this needs is embossing powder and a heat gun to stir the creativity of scrapbook enthusiasts who take pleasure in customizing their very own scrapbook pages. It is a simple process where you layer the ink and embossing powder on the paper. The powder melts and coats the paper, leaving behind a vivid and unique decorative effect. This form of art creates layers of rich colors, showing off the variety of hues making it extremely striking.

Embossing powder can be spread over paper after the paper is stamped with a special kind of wet ink which then holds the powder in its place. However there are two ways of applying the ink, it can either be stamped or patted on with a sponge. After the ink is applied different colored embossing powders maybe be added on separately or all together and then melted. This is where the heat gun is needed as it melts the powder and transforms it into the shiny, molten end product. If you want to create a particular shape or effect you may also try using stencils. Clear or colored embossing powder may also be used to attain a different look. Experimenting with different patterns and shades will bring out the beauty of embossing through the subdued tones contrasting with the vibrant colors.

The splendor of being able to play with colors by means of a simple heat gun is exhilarating. The best part about this is that you never really know what the result will be as you watch the different powders melt and come to life. Each and every creation will be unique as the heat gun automatically creates it s own magic before your eyes. Embossing is a skill that anyone who knows how to use a heat gun can learn.
