Have you noticed how easy it is to use your home computer as a TV?
Right now I can sit at home and watch TV from my computer without having
to pay a nickel for cable or satellite TV subscriptions. Here are the 3 methods i use.
Using Software
This is one of the first methods I tried and it s really simple. I just downloaded a TV software after doing some research (there are tons of them out there) and followed the easy step by step installation. After that I was ready to sit down and watch TV from my computer. The software gives me access to thousands of channels including local
TV and digital satellite channels. I was surprised by how good the quality actually was. All that is needed for this method is:
- A basic computer with access to the internet
- The TV software which can be downloaded from the internet for a small one time fee.
TV Tuner Card
I have also bought a TV tuner card that allows TV signals to be received directly by
my computer. Simple instructions about how to install the card in the computer was included.
Good thing about this card is that I can watch TV from my computer without having an internet connection.
There are several different kinds of TV tuner cards on the market. The biggest difference between them is:
- Quality
- Support for digital television
- Support for HDTV
Some cards can also be used as video capturing cards for recording TV programs and save them on your local computer hard drive.
The bad thing about these cards is that you still need to pay a subscription for cable if you like to have all those channels.
Using the internet browser
I use this method to watch TV from my computer when I m not very concerned about
the quality. Even if I can get pretty decent quality with broad band connection, it still does not get as good as the other 2 methods. To use this method I just head over to the TV channels website and follow their instructions. Some stations require you to have windows media player or real player to watch their programs.
This method is really simple and free, but has its limitations.
I use all of these 3 methods to watch TV from my computer. Some occasions are better suited for a certain method. I have also hooked up the s-video output on my computer with a cable to my TV. That way I can sit down in my couch and watch TV from my computer on my big screen plasma.
