Duct tapes were used for the first time during World War II. These were used to fix or seal different items used by allied forces such as artillery boxes, ammunition boxes and canisters. These tapes were also used extensively to fix leaking air ducts and were named accordingly. Rubber based adhesive is used to make durable, waterproof duct tapes.

Duct tapes are used to fix household items such as broken fishing rods and plastic chairs. It is used in industries to fix broken equipment. Apart from this, it is also used to make personal and handicraft products. Sticky sides of two pieces of duct tapes are joined to make duct tape fabric. The fabric is then cut into different shapes and sizes and joined together to make different handicraft products.

A number of handicrafts can be made using duct tape fabric. Wallets, cell phone covers, backpacks, bracelets, bookmarks and handbags are some of the most common products that make use of duct tape. Other items include duct tape hammocks, shoelaces, can holders, pencil holders, folders and flip-flops. Fashion designers use this fabric to create wardrobes for men and women. Products made from duct tape fabric are durable, waterproof and have a bright glossy finish.

Layers of waterproof polyethylene and strong cloth mesh are pressed together under high pressure, to make duct tape. Artists use duct tapes to create life size sculptures of animals, birds, cartoon characters and famous personalities. These products are very innovative and can be purchased from online stores.

Duct tapes of different strength and colors are available on the market. They can be combined to make new handicrafts that are more colorful and vibrant. With a little innovation and creative thinking, more products can be made using duct tapes.
